About Arcana Calculator

Arcana Calculator brings free tarot, numerology and destiny matrix tools together in one place, with clear card meanings and every calculation shown, so you always know how your result was found.

What we offer

  • Find your personal arcana card with the arcana calculator, or work out your tarot birth cards, the personality and soul cards from Mary K. Greer’s method.
  • See your tarot card for this year, then a card for each month and one for today.
  • Build a full destiny matrix chart with the karmic tail, money and love lines, or compare two birth dates in a couple’s chart.
  • Work out your life path, expression, soul urge, personality, personal year and karmic debt numbers, each matched to a tarot card.
  • Draw a daily, yes or no or three-card reading, try one of 16 tarot spreads, or look up upright and reversed meanings for all 78 tarot cards.

The full list is on the calculators page, and our tarot and numerology guides explain how each system works.

Our principles

  • Each result lists the sum line by line, so you can check it by hand. The formulas, each with a worked example, are on our methodology and formulas page.
  • Every calculator, reading and chart is free, with no sign-up, email or payment.
  • Calculations run in your browser, so birth dates and names are never sent to our servers. Details are in our privacy policy.
  • Where readers disagree, such as The Fool as 0 or 22, or Strength as card 8 or 11, both views are explained.
  • All 78 card illustrations were drawn for Arcana Calculator, based on the Rider-Waite-Smith symbolism.

Where our card meanings come from

Card and number meanings draw on the published sources below and the correspondences most modern readers use. Formulas are tested against worked examples before they go live, and the examples on each page are checked against the calculator they describe. The editorial policy covers how pages are reviewed and kept up to date.

  • A. E. Waite, The Pictorial Key to the Tarot (1910), the guide to the Rider-Waite-Smith deck illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith.
  • Mary K. Greer, Tarot for Your Self (1984) and Who Are You in the Tarot? (2011), for tarot birth cards and year cards.
  • Angeles Arrien, The Tarot Handbook (1987).
  • Rachel Pollack, Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom (1980 and 1983).
  • The Golden Dawn correspondences in Aleister Crowley’s Liber 777 (1909), for each card’s astrology, element and Hebrew letter.
  • Natalia Ladini’s Matrix of Destiny method (2006), for the destiny matrix and karmic tail.
  • Hans Decoz, Numerology: Key to Your Inner Self (1994), for life path and name numbers.

Responsible use

Tarot and numerology are tools for reflection, not prediction. Your arcana card can help you notice patterns, ask better questions and look at a decision from a fresh angle. It can’t foretell events or reveal what someone else is thinking, and it is never a substitute for advice from a doctor, lawyer, financial advisor or therapist.

Who we are

Arcana Calculator is a small, independent project run by the Arcana Calculator Team, based in Texas. Between us we have hands-on experience reading tarot, a working knowledge of astrology and a background in data analysis, which is why the site shows its math. It began as a tool for checking arcana and birth card sums and grew into a full set of free tarot and numerology calculators. The aim hasn’t changed: clear, accurate answers you can check for yourself.
