How to read a karmic tail

The tail runs from the center of your chart down to the bottom corner. Most readers take it from the corner up:

• D, the corner and last number, is where the old pattern started.
• D1, the middle number, is what kept it going.
• D2, the first number and the one nearest the center, is how the pattern appears in your life now. It is also the quality that helps you move past it.

D2 is always 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 or 21 because of the way the chart adds D to the center, and that limit is why only 26 tails exist. The formulas are on our methodology page, and karmic tails explained covers the background.

How common each karmic tail is

Share of all birth dates from 1940 to 2015, grouped by the first number of the tail. The Rebel, 15-20-5, covers almost 1 in 10 people. The Dictator, 6-14-8, covers fewer than 1 in 500.

Working with your tail

Each tail page tells the story behind the numbers, lists the signs that the pattern is active, and gives the lesson, five practical steps, and what the tail tends to mean for love and money. Start with the signs. If two or three sound familiar, the tail is describing something real for you. Then try a step for a month.
