Personality card + soul card
Tarot birth card pairs
In Mary K. Greer's system, some birthdays give two tarot birth cards: a personality card for the side of you people see, and a soul card for the purpose underneath. Across 1950 to 2010 that was 38.9% of all dates, spread over thirteen possible pairs. Find yours with the tarot birth card calculator, then open its page to see how the two cards work together.

Frequently asked questions
Why are there only 13 birth card pairs?
Because a pair needs a personality card of 10 or more, and there are 13 cards from 10 to 22. Each one reduces to exactly one soul card, so each makes exactly one pair. A personality number of 19 is the only one that reduces twice (19, then 10, then 1), which is why the Sun, Wheel of Fortune and Magician set has three cards.
Can people born today get every pair?
No. Pairs at the top of the deck need high totals, which only older years produce. Nobody born after 1978 gets The Moon and The Hermit, after 1988 the Sun, Wheel and Magician trio, after 1989 Judgement and The High Priestess, after 1990 The World and The Empress, or after 1991 The Fool and The Emperor.
Do I read the personality card or the soul card first?
Start with the personality card, because it is the one you will recognize in your daily life. Then read the soul card as the reason underneath it. Each pair page below explains how the two cards pull together and where they rub.
