How life path compatibility works

Your life path number describes your basic temperament: how fast you like to move, what makes you feel safe, how you handle conflict. Put two life paths side by side and you get a quick read on where two people are likely to click and where they'll need to work at it. The calculator finds both numbers from your birth dates, looks the pair up in the chart below and shows the score, the strengths and the watch-outs.

How to calculate life path compatibility

  1. Find each life path. Reduce the day, month and year of birth separately to one digit (keep 11 and 22), add the three, and reduce again.
  2. Look up the pair. Find the row for one number and the column for the other in the chart. Order doesn't matter: 1 and 9 is the same pair as 9 and 1.
  3. Read the score with the notes. The score says how much effort the pair takes; the strengths and watch-outs say where.

Worked example. Born March 15, 1990: day 15 → 6, month 3, year 1990 → 19 → 1, and 6 + 3 + 1 = 10 → life path 1. Born August 2, 1988: day 2, month 8, year 1988 → 26 → 8, and 2 + 8 + 8 = 18 → life path 9. The pair 1 and 9 scores 3 out of 5: the 1 brings focus and drive, the 9 brings a wider view and compassion, and the friction comes when personal goals meet bigger causes.

What the scores mean

  • 5: natural fit. Similar pace or complementary strengths. The main risk is coasting.
  • 4: good fit. Works well, with one or two known sticking points.
  • 3: mixed. Real strengths and real friction in roughly equal measure.
  • 2: takes effort. The two numbers want different things, so it needs conscious give and take.
  • 1: hardest. Clashing basics. It can work, but only if both people choose to meet in the middle.

Out of 78 possible pairs, 15 score 5 and only 3 score 1: 3 and 4, 4 and 5, and 6 and 7. Most pairs land on 3 or 4.

Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 in compatibility

The chart keeps master numbers as their own rows, so a life path 11 is compared as an 11, not as a 2. Master numbers bring more intensity: higher ideals, more sensitivity, more pressure. If you prefer to read them by their root, look up the root pair as well (11 counts as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6) and read both; the calculator shows that root pair for you. A 33 only counts as a master life path when one of the three parts of the date was already 11 or 22, which is why it is rare.

Getting the most from your result

  • Read the watch-outs together. They're the most useful part: each one is a pattern you can spot early and talk about.
  • Remember it's one number. Your full numerology chart adds expression, soul urge and personality numbers, which can soften or sharpen a match.
  • Try the tarot view. The arcana compatibility calculator gives you a shared couple card, and the destiny matrix compatibility chart maps the relationship point by point.
Do I need both full birth dates?

Yes. A life path uses the day, month and year, so you need all three for each person. If you only know a birthday without the year, the zodiac tarot card calculator works from the day and month alone.

Why does another site give us a different score?

There is no single official chart. Some sites reduce 11, 22 and 33 to 2, 4 and 6 before scoring, some only rate 1 to 9, and each writer weighs the pairings a little differently. Our chart keeps the master numbers as their own rows. The ratings describe temperament, so read the strengths and watch-outs as well as the number.

Are two of the same life path number compatible?

Often, at first. Two people with the same number understand each other quickly, but they also share blind spots, so the same problem can keep coming back. Two 1s, for example, score 3: lots of energy, and a fight over who steers.

Does life path compatibility work for friends and family?

Yes. The ratings describe how two temperaments get along, so you can use them for friends, family members and colleagues as well as partners. Love-specific notes are on each pair page.

How accurate is life path compatibility?

It is a reflective tradition, not a scientific test, and it looks at one number out of many. Treat a rating as a conversation starter about how you each work, not as a verdict on a relationship.
