A destiny matrix compatibility chart, or couple’s matrix, is a third chart made by adding the matching points of two people’s charts (A to A, B to B and so on) and reducing any total over 22. It describes the shared themes of the relationship, and it’s meant to be talked about together, never read as a verdict on whether you’ll last.

The destiny matrix compatibility calculator builds both charts and the couple’s chart for you, with every sum shown.

How is a destiny matrix compatibility chart calculated?

Start with two complete individual charts. If you haven’t built one before, how to read a destiny matrix chart gives every formula. In short:

  • A = day, B = month, C = digit sum of the year, D = A + B + C, E (center) = A + B + C + D
  • F = A + B, G = B + C, H = C + D, I = D + A

Then build the couple’s chart in two steps.

Step 1: add the nine main points

Add person one’s A to person two’s A, their B to B, and so on for C, D, E, F, G, H and I. Reduce any total over 22 by adding its digits. Note that the couple’s center is E₁ + E₂, not a fresh sum of the couple’s corners.

Step 2: derive everything else from the couple’s points

Everything else is worked out from those nine couple points with the usual formulas, exactly as for one person:

  • On each ray, X2 = X + E and X1 = X + X2, using the couple’s E.
  • Karmic tail = D2, D1, D. Shared point = C2 + D2.
  • Money channel = C2, C2 + shared point, shared point. Love line = D2, D2 + shared point, shared point.
  • Sky = B + D, earth = A + C, personal purpose = sky + earth. Father line = F + H, mother line = G + I, social purpose = father + mother. Spiritual purpose = personal + social.

The matrix uses Marseille numbering, so 8 is Justice, 11 is Strength and 22 is the Fool. The methodology page lists every formula the site uses.

Why some calculators give a different couple’s center

Some tools add only the A, B and C corners, then rebuild D, E and everything else from those three. The corners match either way, but the center and the inner points can change. This site adds every main point, because the couple’s center then carries both partners’ centers. If two tools disagree, this is the first thing to check. Why arcana calculators give different results covers the other common causes.

Worked example: a couple’s matrix step by step

Person one was born on March 15, 1990. Person two was born on August 2, 1988.

The two individual charts

Point Person one Person two
A 15 2
B 3 8
C 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19 1 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 26 → 8
D 37 → 10 18
E (center) 47 → 11 36 → 9
F / G / H / I 18 / 22 / 11 / 7 10 / 16 / 8 / 20
Karmic tail 21-4-10 9-9-18
Shared point 6 8
Money channel 3 · 9 · 6 17 · 7 · 8
Love line 21 · 9 · 6 9 · 17 · 8

The couple’s chart

Point Calculation Couple Card
A 15 + 2 17 Star
B 3 + 8 11 Strength
C 19 + 8 = 27 → 9 9 Hermit
D 10 + 18 = 28 → 10 10 Wheel of Fortune
E (center) 11 + 9 20 Judgement
F / G / H / I 18 + 10, 22 + 16, 11 + 8, 7 + 20 10 / 11 / 19 / 9 Wheel, Strength, Sun, Hermit
C2 9 + 20 = 29 → 11 11 Strength
D2 10 + 20 = 30 → 3 3 Empress
Karmic tail D2, D + D2 = 13, D 3-13-10 Empress, Death, Wheel
Shared point 11 + 3 14 Temperance
Money channel 11, 11 + 14 = 25 → 7, 14 11 · 7 · 14 Strength, Chariot, Temperance
Love line 3, 3 + 14 = 17, 14 3 · 17 · 14 Empress, Star, Temperance
Personal purpose sky 21 + earth 8 = 29 → 11 11 Strength
Social purpose father 11 + mother 20 = 31 → 4 4 Emperor
Spiritual purpose 11 + 4 15 Devil

Under the rebuild method, the center would be 17 + 11 + 9 + 10 = 47 → 11 instead of 20. That single difference explains most disagreements between compatibility calculators.

Does the couple’s matrix give a compatibility score?

No. The matrix has no percentage or pass mark, and any tool that turns it into a score has added its own rating on top. Every arcana has a balanced and a strained side, so no number is a “good match” or a “bad match” in itself.

What the chart does give you is a set of themes. Some will feel easy because both of you live them well. Others will show where the relationship asks for effort. That’s more useful than a score, because you can act on it.

What to read first in a couple’s chart

A couple’s chart has as many points as an individual one. Reading in this order keeps it focused.

1. The center: what you create together

The couple’s E is the mood the relationship settles into. In the example it’s 20, Judgement: a bond that wakes things up, with frank talks, fresh starts and often strong ties to family. A good question for this couple is whether that feels like a shared calling or a pressure.

2. The four corners: how the relationship shows itself

  • A is often read as the relationship’s public face. Here 17, the Star, looks hopeful and inspiring to others.
  • B points to shared talents. 11, Strength, points to endurance and patience.
  • C is tied to home, money and the material side. 9, the Hermit, favors a private base with plenty of time alone.
  • D is the shared lesson. 10, the Wheel of Fortune, is about adapting to change together.

3. The couple’s karmic tail

The combined tail, 3-13-10 here, is read as a pattern the relationship tends to replay until you deal with it deliberately. Empress, Death and Wheel together hint at holding on to comfort when something needs to end or change. If neither partner has this tail alone, the pairing itself brings it out. The karmic tail guide covers all 26 tails.

4. Love line and money channel

Both end in the shared point, here 14, Temperance: balance, patience and blending two styles. The love line opens with 3, the Empress, and the money channel with 11, Strength. So this couple bonds through warmth and care, and builds resources through steady effort. The love line guide and money channel guide explain each position.

5. The purposes

Personal purpose (11) is what the couple builds for itself, here inner steadiness. Social purpose (4) is what it builds for others, such as a family structure or a shared project. Spiritual purpose (15) is the deeper lesson, here about owning what you want and freedom from unhealthy attachment.

How to compare your two individual charts

Next to the couple’s chart, look for echoes between the two personal charts.

  • Shared numbers. When one person’s number turns up anywhere in the other’s chart, that theme is often strong between them. Here, person one’s love line holds 9 in the middle, and person two’s center is 9. The Hermit’s need for time alone is something both partners know.
  • Two different tails. Person one’s tail ends in 10 and person two’s in 18. They describe different lessons that will meet in daily life, and neither is “better.”
  • Two shared points. Person one’s shared point is 6, the Lovers, and person two’s is 8, Justice. Both are about choice and fairness, and the couple’s 14 blends them.

Shared centers, shared tails, repeats and hard centers

A few setups come up often enough to know in advance.

  • The couple’s center matches one partner’s center. The relationship’s resting state feels familiar to one person and new to the other. Talking about that openly helps, since one partner may feel at home while the other is still adjusting.
  • The couple’s tail matches one partner’s tail. The relationship tends to bring that person’s lesson to the surface, and the other partner often plays a supporting or mirroring role.
  • A strongly repeated number. If the same card sits in the center, a corner and a purpose point, readers take it as the relationship’s main theme.
  • A hard card at the center. A center of 15 (the Devil), 16 (the Tower) or 18 (the Moon) means the pair has more to work through, often with more to gain. It doesn’t mean the relationship is wrong.

Couple’s matrix vs arcana and life path compatibility

Many sites use “compatibility” for different methods. They don’t replace each other.

Method What it compares What you get
Couple’s destiny matrix Every point of two full charts A whole third chart: center, tail, lines and purposes
Arcana compatibility Each person’s arcana number One couple card and an element match
Life path compatibility Two life path numbers from numerology A pairing description for two numbers from 1 to 9, 11, 22 and 33

The single-card and life path tools are quick and easy to share. The couple’s matrix takes longer but shows far more detail, including where the friction is likely to come from.

How to use your couple’s chart together

A compatibility chart can’t tell you whether to stay, leave or commit. Use it the way you’d use a tarot spread for two: as a set of prompts.

One simple exercise works well. Each partner reads the couple’s center and karmic tail alone, notes what rings true and what doesn’t, and then you compare notes. The places where you disagree are often the most useful to talk about.

To see each person’s full individual chart, use the destiny matrix calculator. To build the couple’s chart for any two birth dates, go back to the destiny matrix compatibility calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good couple center number in the destiny matrix?

There isn't one. Every arcana has a balanced side and a strained side, so a Sun center can mean warmth or a need for constant attention, and a Tower center can mean upheaval or a couple who say hard things to each other early. What matters is which side of the number the two of you tend to live, and that is something you can change.

Does a compatibility matrix work for friends, family or business partners?

Yes. The method only needs two birth dates, so readers use it for any close bond: friends, a parent and child, siblings or co-founders. Some points are named with romance in mind, such as the love line, but they translate easily. For a business partnership, give the money channel and the social purpose more weight than the love line.

Does it matter whose birth date goes first?

No. Each couple point is a sum of the two matching points, and addition gives the same answer in either order. Swapping the dates only changes which column is labeled as which person in a side-by-side table. The couple's chart itself stays exactly the same.

Should I read my own matrix before a couple's chart?

It helps. A couple's chart describes the space between two people, and it's easier to follow when you know what each person brings. Many readers look at each person's center and karmic tail first, then build the couple's chart. That way you can tell which themes come from one partner and which only appear in the pairing.
