Death and The Devil

An ending that attachment resists. Death clears what is finished, and the Devil clings through habit, desire and fear. Letting go is a struggle when you know something is over: an addiction, a toxic relationship, or a lifestyle that keeps you stuck. The pair can also run the other way, with an ending that finally frees you from a long-held trap. Ask whether you are holding the chain or it is holding you. Release may hurt, but freedom lies on the other side.

Death and The Devil in love

You may find it hard to let go of a relationship or pattern that is clearly finished. Obsession, jealousy or dependency can keep you stuck, checking their social media long after the breakup. Alternatively, ending an unhealthy bond brings real freedom. Admit what you are clinging to and why.

How they feel: Death and The Devil as feelings

Their feelings are intense and hard for them to let go of. This person may know the relationship, or a version of it, is over, yet still feel pulled toward you. They may cycle between cutting contact and reaching out. The attachment is strong, but they are also aware it isn't good for them.

Death and The Devil in career and money

You may be ending a job or habit that has trapped you, such as chronic overwork or a well-paid but draining role. Letting go may feel risky, yet staying costs more over time. Line up support and a basic financial cushion as you make the change.

Is Death with The Devil a yes or no?

It's a no: Death and The Devil point the same way. For a fresh answer to your own question, draw a yes or no card.

What to do when Death and The Devil turn up

Name the attachment you know is finished. Take one concrete step to break free from it this week, such as deleting a number or booking a meeting.

If Death or The Devil is reversed

With the Devil reversed, the grip loosens and the ending can finally happen. Often the pair reversed shows someone breaking free after a long struggle. A reversed Death, though, means the ending keeps being postponed. If both are reversed, you're close: one decision stands between you and release.
